Benefits Of The Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan Yojana

The SUMAN scheme is a holistic and facilitative initiative of the government that comes with a bunch of rights for its eligible seekers. Let us take a glance at the benefits of the scheme:

• Zero Cost Delivery: The scheme covers the provision of free facilities for both normal and C-Section deliveries across the Public Health Centres (PHCs). The complications that may arrive after the delivery are also treated with no costs under the scheme. 

• Pre and Post-Delivery Care: The detection and treatment of any abnormalities that may exist before and after the delivery are also covered without any costs under the scheme up to 6 months after the delivery. Such care is available for both the mother and the child. 

• Facilitation for Breastfeeding: Any sort of counselling or support that may be required for breastfeeding is also provided under the scheme to initiate early breastfeeding. 

• Transportation Facilities: Free transport facility for pregnant women before and after their delivery is dispensed to  facilitate a hassle-free healthcare process. 

• Postpartum Care: Counselling and care for mothers in order to avoid any mental or physical health risks for the mother is also provided under the scheme.

• Immunisation Facilities: The vaccination of the child against Tetanus-Diphtheria and supplements of Iron and Folic Acid for the mother are also covered free of cost under the scheme.

The benefits of the scheme are available to all new mothers and babies for up to 6 months. It is pertinent to note that such facilities are free of cost. 

SUMAN Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply For Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan?

The eligibility criteria for the SUMAN scheme are very inclusive. It is as under:

• Pregnant Women: Regardless of their Below Poverty Line (BPL) or Above Poverty line (APL) status, all pregnant women are eligible under this scheme. 

• Newborn Children: Infants aged 0 to 6 months are eligible to seek care under this scheme. 

• Lactating Women: Women are eligible to seek medical attention under this government scheme for up to 6 months after their date of delivery.

In order to apply and seek healthcare facilities under the SUMAN scheme, the following steps need to be undertaken: 

• Visit the Civil Hospital in your area.

•  Deposit your Identity Proof and address proof (AADHAR, PAN, Passport, etc.) along with pregnancy details. 

• The hospital will verify the details and include you under the scheme as per the guidelines.
