Union Health Minister J P Nadda will soon lauch Ayushman Bharat Scheme in Odisha. About 3.5 crore from 1.03 crore families in Odisha are expected to avail of the scheme, enabling them to receive free, cashless hospitalisation services in 29,000 private and public hospitals across the country. In the past, state-sponsored coverage had access to only 900 hospitals in the country.

What’s New With The Ayushman Bharat Scheme in Odisha?

Together with the national rollout of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, the following initiatives were added:

  • Ayushman Vayo-Vandana Yojana: Targeted towards elderly citizens above the age of 70 years, without any income restriction.

  • Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (GJAY): A state-level scheme which was integrated with the Ayushman Bharat scheme to enhance the scope of healthcare services at the regional level.

Key Features Of The Scheme

Here is a simplified and well-structured summary of the key features of Odisha’s healthcare scheme.

  • Health Coverage per Family up to Rs 5 Lakh.

  • Additional Rs 5 Lakh for Women.

  • Extra Rs 5 Lakh if a family member or Senior Citizen (70+) is present.

  • Maximum Coverage per Family: Rs 15 Lakh.

These public healthcare services stand out when compared to other states, especially for women and elderly citizens, further solidifying why Odisha has one of the most expansive and comprehensive healthcare schemes in the country.

Major Infrastructure Boost

Besides the scheme launch, Union Minister Nadda inaugurated the new building of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Post Graduate Institute of Pediatrics located in Cuttack. Along with these, he is expected to go to AIIMS Bhubaneswar and CIPET due to the increasing focus from the central government towards developing the healthcare and educational services in the area.

Massive Budget Allocation

In support of these healthcare programs, the Odisha cabinet had earlier sanctioned a budget of Rs 27,019 crore for five years. This carefully crafted budget will assist in the proper coverage, seamless implementation, adequate service provision, and adequate publicity regarding the scheme’s benefits.

Conclusion

Today marks a new beginning in India’s Odisha region as it focuses on public healthcare. The aim is to improve and expand existing healthcare service, add more support to existing coverage, improve accessibility for the elderly, and offer for seniors. With these efforts, the state intends to guarantee affordable access to quality health services for all.
