Fishing is a core part of Goa and acts as a source of income for a lot of households, especially for families living in the coastal regions of Goa. 2.5% of their total GDP is contributed by the fisheries sector. As this sector contributes so much, the government decided to introduce a govt scheme to enhance the sector even more.

“Financial Assistance to Purchase/Construct New Fishing Craft less than 26 feet for Fishing in Inland Waters of Goa” is a government scheme introduced by the Department of Fisheries, the government of Goa. This scheme aims to enhance and uplift the fisheries sector and also provide financial help to fishermen.

The scheme helps marine fisheries and provides benefits for them. For the General Category, there is a 50% subsidy up to ₹30,000 on a unit cost of ₹60,000. For SC, ST, and Women, the subsidy is 60% up to ₹36,000 on the same unit cost. Let’s learn more about it.

What Is The Eligibility Criteria To Apply For This Government Scheme?

Fishermen who want to apply for this govt scheme have to make sure they meet the following eligibility criteria.

  • The applicant must be a traditional fisherman by birth or profession.

  • The applicant must be a resident of Goa.

  • The fishing canoe must be registered with the Department of Captain of Ports, Government of Goa.

What Is The Application Process Of This Government Scheme?

Fishermen who meet the eligibility criteria can follow these steps to apply for the govt scheme.

  1. Get the application form from the Marine Fisheries Department by paying Rs. 50.

  2. Fill out the application form with the necessary details.

  3. Attach all the required documents along with it.

  4. Submit the application form to the Department of Fisheries in Panaji, Goa, or to the official at the BDO Office or Sub-Offices of the Department of Fisheries.

What Are The Required Documents To Be Submitted With The Application Form?

Applicants have to ensure that they attach the following documents along with the application form.

  • Original invoice for the purchase or construction of a new Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) vessel

  • Vessel Registration Certificate from the Captain of Ports

  • River Gill Net Registration Certificate and License from the Department of Fisheries

  • Undertaking as per the required format

  • Copy of Aadhaar Card

  • OBC (Kharvi) or Profession Certificate from the Competent Authority, like Mamlatdar or Chief Officer, countersigned by the Block Development Officer (BDO)

  • Scheduled Tribe (ST) or Scheduled Caste (SC) Certificate, if applicable.

  • Mandate Form with a copy of the Bank Pass Book.

  • Bills from the Authorized Boat Dealer for constructing the Fishing Canoe.
