Recently, Shri Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, announced the launch of the new FASTag annual plan. The new plan consists of a key component called the FASTag pass, which has been introduced to improve the existing system of collecting toll charges.

What Is The FASTag Pass?

FASTag Pass is a new addition launched under the new FASTag annual plan by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways. FASTag passes are a kind of rechargeable toll pass that people can recharge and pay tolls efficiently and quickly. The passes can be recharged up to Rs. 3000 p.a. and will work for a year or at least 200 trips. The FASTag passes would start working from 15th August, 2025.

Some important details about the FASTag pass are laid down below in brief for one’s better understanding:

• An issued FASTag pass is only applicable for the vehicle it has been issued for, hence, it cannot be transferred or used for other vehicles.

• Every time the vehicle crosses a toll plaza, it’ll be counted as a single trip and the return journey will be counted as the second trip. If the toll system is closed, entry and exit will be counted as one single trip.

• Please note that if you are a motorcycle rider and you complete the limit of 200 trips, you will be given the option of purchasing a new FASTag pass.

Is It Compulsory To Apply For A FASTag Pass Under The New Annual Plan?

No, private non-commercial vehicle owners don't need to apply for the new FASTag pass. It is a scheme launched by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways for the convenience of the people and to make the toll system more accountable and efficient.
