The Leather Industries Development Corporation (LIDCOM), under the state government of Maharashtra, launched a scheme called the LIDCOM Gattai Stall Scheme. This is a social welfare scheme specifically for people from the community of Scheduled Castes (SCs) who work as cobblers or in other professions wherein leather is used as a primary raw material.
The primary reason behind the creation of this scheme is to provide tin stalls completely free of cost to the cobblers working on roadsides so that they can continue their work from a sturdy shelter and stay safe from the ever-changing weather conditions. The scheme is completely funded by the state govt of Maharashtra.
Several objectives of this Sarkari Yojana make it unique and beneficial. Some of the key objectives of the Maharashtra Leather Workers Scheme are laid down below:
The primary objective of the LIDCOM scheme for SC entrepreneurs is to provide a sturdy shelter made of tin under which they can continue their work. This will not only protect them from the harsh weather conditions but also improve the conditions of their professional lives and quality of work.
Through this scheme, the state govt of Maharashtra aims to make the work environment of cobblers better and safer. This would not only improve the quality of their work but would also help them earn better.
The Gattai Stall Subsidy Scheme Maharashtra comes along with several benefits, some of which are mentioned below:
The major benefit that beneficiaries of this Sarkari Yojana can enjoy is access to a tin stall of size 4’ x 5’ x 6.5’, which costs around Rs. 16,367 and incidental charges worth Rs. 500. People are not required to pay a single penny toward this stall as the stall is completely subsidised and sponsored by the state govt authorities of Maharashtra.
As the stall is sturdy and much safer than working in open environments, indirectly, in a way, the scheme contributes toward an improved quality of work and income of all the beneficiaries of the Sarkari Yojana.
The LIDCOM loan scheme for cobbler shields them from extra financial burden, as every benefit received from this scheme is completely free of cost. The stalls not only protect cobblers from harsh weather conditions, but also provide them with a sense of dignity and respect which their profession often doesn’t receive.
