Under the Delhi Tirth Yatra Scheme, senior citizens can visit their desired pilgrimage sites without any major expenses, as costs such as travel, food, and accommodation are paid by the government of Delhi.
The government scheme has allowed at least 38,000 people to visit their desired places since its launch. The senior citizens can also travel with an attendant, but it is optional.
The Delhi government works in collaboration with the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to manage the scheduled tours. Interested individuals first need to ensure whether they fit into the eligibility criteria or not. The eligibility criteria for availing of the scheme are:
The applicant must be a resident of Delhi or its territorial jurisdiction.
Applicants must be 60 years old.
The applicants shouldn’t be employed in any government jobs.
The minimum age of the attendant should be at least 21 years.
