The Karnataka Forest Department introduced the Krushi Aranya Protsaha Yojane (KAPY) in 2011-12 to help farmers and the public grow more trees and increase forest cover. This government scheme gives farmers subsidised seedlings to plant on their land so that the greenery is still maintained in the state.
The govt scheme offers financial rewards to farmers. Farmers will receive Rs 35 for each seedling that survives after the first year, Rs 40 after the second year, and Rs 50 after the third year. Over three years, a farmer can earn Rs 125 for each seedling. This amount is enough to cover the prices of the seeds.
Additionally, farmers can also benefit from the trees when they grow. They can earn by selling fruits, seeds, fodder, firewood, poles, and timber from the trees, adding more income and giving them more reasons to take part in Krushy Arnya Protsaha Yojane.
This government scheme provides valuable support to farmers while also helping the environment. It encourages tree planting by offering financial incentives and affordable seedlings. Here’s how the scheme benefits farmers and the community:
The KAPY scheme helps farmers and the public grow more trees and increase forest cover.
Farmers can buy seedlings at low prices from nearby Forest Department nurseries.
Farmers get Rs 35 for each seedling that survives after the first year, Rs 40 after the second year, and Rs 50 after the third year.
This money encourages farmers to plant and take care of the seedlings for at least three years.
The total amount of Rs 125 per seedling is more than what it costs to plant them.
The scheme avoids unsuitable tree species, encouraging the planting of the right kinds of trees and stopping harmful ones from spreading.
