The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has released an official communication that amends the amounts registrars can charge residents for Aadhaar update transactions. Framed as a planned, phased adjustment of transaction fees, this update is part of UIDAI's regular financial analysis of its operational costs and service arrangements. Below is the new table of fees, what remains free, the two-level routes to update all services, and sensible tips so you don't pay more than your fair share.
UIDAI has a regular review process for the assistance it offers registrars and the rates registrars can collect from residents. The revised table accounts for operational cost adjustments and introduces a second phase of updating rates in 2028 - UIDAI emphasised that new enrollments are still free, even with the targeted exemptions for select child biometrics.
UIDAI still allows residents certain protections, especially with children: the obligatory updates of biometrics for children at prescribed ages (for example, the once-between-5-and-7 and again once-between-15-and-17) have traditionally come without a charge to the resident; however, it is advised for the residents to review current circulars to see exactly which categories UIDAI directly funds.
It’s important to know the latest changes. Here are the key highlights you must note right away to avoid surprises and extra costs:-
The new fees will commence on 1 October 2025.
The charge for demographic updates will rise, and changes for biometric updates will increase, too.
Home service will cost for the first household member.
UIDAI reports exist of hundreds of crores of authentication transactions in a month, which explains why keeping the information accurate is essential.
This table summarises UIDAI’s official order that takes effect on 1 October 2025. Read the table below to understand it better:-
| Particular | New charge (1 Oct 2025 – 30 Sep 2028) | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Demographic update (name, address, DOB, mobile, email) | ₹75 if done separately | No extra charge if done with abiometric update. |
| Biometric update (fingerprints, iris, photo) | ₹125 | Increases further to ₹150 from 1 Oct 2028 (next phase). |
| Document upload (Aadhaar document support) | Varies (centre/portal rules) | myAadhaar/SSUP options exist — see below. |
| Home-service visit (resident’s address) | ₹700 (incl. GST) for first resident; ₹350 for each additional resident at same address | Charged in addition to the update fee. |
| Aadhaar generation (new enrolment) | Free | First-time Aadhaar remains free of cost. |
Key date: these rates apply from 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2028; UIDAI has signalled a second, higher band of fees from 1 October 2028 to 30 September 2031.
