Banglar Bari scheme which was launched by the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is a Government sponsored scheme for providing housing to the rural poor people. This government scheme is an important move towards addressing rural housing issues as its first phase covers more than 12 lakh beneficiaries. The Banglar Bari is a state-funded housing scheme set up to assist low-income rural households in West Bengal to build their own houses. The government yojana was started as a substitute for the PM Awas Yojana, as there were hold-ups in the disbursement of central funds.

During its pilot phase, over 42 families were reached and this scheme aims to cover 18 lakh households by 2025. This scheme alleviates rural poverty by providing immediate funds while also constructing infrastructure in areas like Jangalmahal and Darjeeling hills which have enormous housing shortages.
