The Veer Jyoti Puraskars is an awarding initiative introduced by the state government of Goa under the supervision of the Directorate of Women and Child Development (DW&CD) back in the year 2016. This initiative is designed specifically for women residing in the state. The main aim of this initiative is to reward the brave acts of women in stressful and difficult situations.
Through this award, women are not just recognised but are made to feel empowered and special, which they are, but needed to be reminded of because of the constant pressure from society or due to the discrimination they face simply because of their gender. The award is not just a symbol of being heroic but a measure that highlights the importance of behavioral traits like quick response and initiative-taking behavior, particularly helpful in challenging situations.
The Bharat Jyoti Puraskar comprises various essential objectives that make the whole scheme unique and different from others, such as:
The primary objective of this award-based initiative is to reward the courageous acts of people in situations that need it. The authorities recognise the efforts of people, specifically females, who act selflessly without expecting anything from anyone, as such acts need to be reinforced among everyone.
An indirect objective of the Bharat Jyoti Puraskar is to break gender-related stereotypes that portray women as dependent on males. By showcasing the courageous acts of females out in the public, the award-related initiative aims to break the shackles of age-old negative stereotypes in the minds of both men and women.
Through initiatives like the Veer Vijeta Puraskar, the authorities also aim to create role models for other females, as nothing is more persuasive than real-life stories and incidents. Females who are awarded this award inspire many other females and remind them that, despite all the difficulties and disparities faced by women, they can still flourish and grow in their lives.
The award is not just a symbol or a shallow sign but much more than that. The authorities also aim to instill an active mindset in people, irrespective of their gender or age, as in serious situations, one needs to act quickly and mindfully at the same time.

The Bharat Jyoti Puraskar comes with numerous benefits. Some of its major and popular benefits are described below in detailed points:
One of the key benefits is that the awardees who are selected for this award by the selection committee are entitled to receive a cash prize worth Rs 20,000 along with a scroll or citation. Awardees can use the money for whatever purpose they deem fit and lead comfortable lives.
An indirect benefit of this award-related initiative is to bring a positive impact on a woman’s psychological health. The award makes them feel empowered, independent, and strong enough to act alone in extremely difficult and stressful situations. This positive change in one’s mind about oneself can bring positive changes in other areas of their lives too, like work, education, etc., and motivate them to do better.
Awardees receive this award on special national occasions, like the Republic Day, which gives them substantial exposure too. This exposure can open up new opportunities that can potentially change their lives and help them reach new heights.
Public recognition also changes a woman’s image in the public eye, like their family, friends, and the community in general. This can have a positive impact on their daily lives and the environment they live in. They will feel more supported and not questioned or stopped.

The Veer Vijeta Puraskar is an exceptional award-based initiative designed by the state govt authorities of Goa for those women who have been brave in challenging situations, either for themselves or for others. The main aim of such awards is to reinforce the awardees and other citizens to act like them and help others whenever possible, without thinking of what they will gain by helping.
These initiatives are created by various state and central government authorities, as a country cannot progress in the right direction if the people stay behind, especially women, as they are often discouraged from doing anything and everything.
