The purpose of the labour housing scheme, Gujarat 2026, is to fill the temporary needs with pre-installed housing units having basic facilities at very affordable rentals to its workers. Labourers and construction workers are a key group contributing to road, building, bridge, factory, and urban infrastructure development in India. Although they provide significant vitality to the economy and cities, there are significant cases of substandard living conditions of labourers and migrant workers.
Keeping construction workers and their families safe, well-fed, and with access to water, sanitation, and electricity is often a challenge at temporary housing. However, to resolve this as well as raise the level of living standards of the building and other construction workers, the Government of Gujarat enacted the construction workers housing scheme within the Gujarat Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board (GBOCWWB).
By this idea, the workers and their families would have the choice of shelter near a construction site or at a place where they have to work, charging just ₹5 per day. Under the scheme, the labourer gets safe and hygienic housing facilities, and the financial effect of the housing is also reduced.

Shramik Basera Yojana is a welfare housing scheme initiated and created by the Government of Gujarat for the registered construction workers working in the Building and Other Construction Worker Welfare Board, Gujarat. The emphasis in the scheme is on making available temporary facilities for family accommodation to labourers near the site of construction or their work.
The accommodation units are designed with portable buildings constructed from pre-fabricated elements, which are easily disassembled and moved as needed. The housing facilities are planned to be looked after in terms of basic living amenities of drinking water, electricity, sanitation facilities and offering safe shelter to workers.
The Sakrari scheme is particularly beneficial for the migrant construction labourers who migrate from district to district or state to state, from one place to another for a job, and they find it difficult to get a cheaper house where they can stay. The government intends to enhance workers' living standards, safety, and welfare in the construction sector by providing accommodation for them at a nominal fee of ₹5 per day.
There are several aims for welfare and labour protection under the Shramik Basera Yojana:-.
Providing Affordable Housing To Labourers: This has been realised as the principal aim of the sarkari scheme is to provide safe and affordable accommodation facilities to construction workers in their working area.
To Improve Living Conditions Of Workers: The idea of the scheme is to remove the inconveniences for labourers' housing in temporary flats, which lack sanitation and other necessities.
To Support Farmers Migrating to Urban Areas: There is a large number of workers moving into the urban areas to get jobs. The scheme is intended to alleviate the housing problem for the type of worker by providing temporary accommodation for them that they can afford.
Improved Worker Welfare by Providing Hygienic and Organised Housing Arrangements: The government aims to enhance the social security and welfare of construction workers by providing them with a healthy and organised environment.
To Reduce Financial Burden On Workers: Affordable accommodation at ₹5 per day significantly lowers the financial pressure on workers who gently earn limited daily wages.
The government scheme has some key elements that will have a direct impact on registered construction workers.
Temporary Prefabricated Accommodation Facilities: The housing units are temporary buildings built with prefabricated materials, which can be taken apart and moved to other worksites as needed.
Accommodation Near Wok Locations: The temporary housing facilities tend to be built near construction sites to ease accessibility to the workplace.
Affordable Daily Charges: Workers are provided with rooms in the accommodation facility at highly subsidised rates of only ₹5/- per day.
Basic Amenities For Workers: These various housing units have basic facilities like cleanliness, drinking water, shelter, etc., to help provide comfortable living for the workers.

The government's welfare measures have not reduced the number of social and economic problems that the labourers have.
Unsecure employment: Working conditions in the construction industry are often highly unstable, with short-term, seasonal work and opportunities for employment often being limited in duration.
Limited Awareness: Lack of awareness among workers about registration and welfare schemes under labour schemes.
The Shramik Basera Yojana 2026 is an important welfare scheme initiated by the Government of Gujarat to improve the livelihood of the workers and members of their families in the construction sector. Many construction workers will be provided with safe and clean housing facilities through the initiative, while social security and labour welfare programs to secure construction workers will be increased as well.
The government has plans to provide temporary houses of pre-installed structures with basic facilities to provide to the workers who form the backbone of building the infrastructure of Gujarat, while maintaining their dignity and stability.
Despite some problems in registering labourers and making the public aware, the scheme will be useful to improve the welfare of migrant worker areas. However, after being properly implemented, the construction workers' housing scheme will bring positive changes to the lives of construction workers throughout Gujarat.
