Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme (IGNWPS) is one of the social welfare schemes envisaged for pensions to the destitute widow ladies who live below the poverty line in India. The primary purpose of IGNWPS is to enhance the income status of widowed women, mostly in rural areas. The govt scheme aims to ensure that all the widows living in the society with a standard of living below the poverty level benefit from the government.
The applicants for this scheme are the widows aged between 40 – 59 years who are considered to be living in poverty.
Pension Amount: The widow gets her pension at the age of forty and above the age limit of seventy-nine years will be paid rupees three hundred and ages up to seventy-nine shall be paid rupees five hundred.
Direct Transfer: The pension amount is directly sent to her bank account.
To qualify for the IGNWPS which is the Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme eligibility criteria, applicants must meet the following points:
Age Limit: Widows must fall in the age group of 40 to 59 years Adults
Marital Status: Applicants must be widows.
Income Limit: They cannot afford anything for themselves, and are probably living below the poverty level.

Applicants can apply online by visiting the official NSAP (National Social Assistance Programme) portal and filling out the form with the required documents.

NSAP site may be searched and go to the page labelled as “Apply Online.”
Enter the necessary information, pick the payment method, upload a photo of yourself, and press the “Submit” button.
To apply offline, applicants can visit the local Gram Panchayat or Block Development Office and submit the filled application form along with the required documents.
The completed application can be submitted at the Gram Panchayat office for rural areas or the Block Office for the rural areas & Municipality for the urban areas.
It will be considered whether the application should be approved or rejected with some suggestions.
The Gram Sabha decides on the merits of the applicant and the Sanctioning Authority passes a Sanction Order as and when required.

The cash payout for pension is delivered through the DBT infrastructure, which implies that pension funds are credited directly to the beneficiary’s bank accounts. Fees may be paid on a monthly, or quarterly basis depending on the verification process required. It is transferred depending on the account information filled by the applicant.
Applicants need proof of identity (Aadhaar/Voter ID), age, residence, widowhood status, and income certificate to apply for the scheme. To apply for the IGNWPS, applicants must provide the following documents:
Age proof (birth certificate/ school certificate).
BPL (Below Poverty Line) card for which soft copies and scanned forms are accepted.
Three small photographs of the size of a passport.
Proof of residence.
Bank account details.
