To provide social protection and financial support to the weak groups of orphans.

Orphan children are supported educationally and in all other respects through the Snehapoorvam Scheme in Kerala. To ensure the right children benefit from the scheme, specific eligibility criteria have been set:
The child is a citizen of the state of Kerala.
There has been a loss of at least one parent.
Family income or the children must belong to the BPL category or for the APL category the earnings are to be below Rs.20000 for rural and Rs. 22375 for urban areas.
All degree learners are accepted from standard one.
However, even children under the age of 5 years can also apply.
To avoid issues in the Snehapoorvam Scheme, some procedures have to be followed before application. There is a working together between the family units, the school, and the Kerala Social Security Mission. Here is how you go about it:
Step 1: Obtain the application form available at the Aided/Govt. institutions or the Kerala Social Security Mission’s website.
Step 2: Complete the form with the needed information and submit it along with the necessary documents to the head of the institution by 31st October of every year.
Step 3: The application will be processed by the institution and it will be presented to the Executive Director of Kerala Social Security Mission.
Note: Children below 5 years of age can approach the related child welfare committees for submission of the application.
There is documentation which serves as proof of every Snehapoorvam Scheme application. These necessary documents are used to warrant the eligibility of the applicant. There are two types of documents required:
The identity proof of the child (Aadhaar/any other valid ID).
Passport-size photograph.
BPL card photostat (if any).
Proof of residence.
Death certificate of father and/or mother.
Account passbook or the account number.
The Snehapoorvam Scheme is a very useful program that helps the government think about the needs of orphaned children in Kerala and provide the necessary funding for their education and welfare support programs.
