## What Did The Supreme Court Hold Recently?
The Supreme Court of India created a National Task Force to present and recommend measures to promote and ensure women’s safety at workplaces, especially for doctors. The Apex Court ordered this after taking suo-moto cognisance of the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata.
The Court has also directed that the college be given protection by Central Reserved Paramilitary Forces (CRPF) to avoid any mishaps or incidents of violence. The Supreme Court, through the task force, created a panel of doctors and others to formulate guidelines for the safety of medical workers in the country.

The Task Force has been directed to submit an interim report within three weeks and a final report within two months, containing recommendations and guidelines.
The decision by the Supreme Court comes in light of the heinous and brutal rape of a trainee doctor at a medical college and hospital in Kolkata. The federal police have also been asked to submit a report on the matter.
The incident has been condemned all across the country with candle marches and protests taking place in almost every state of the country.
The Chief Justice of India, D.Y. Chandrachud, while hearing the matter observed that “Protecting safety of doctors and women doctors is a matter of national interest and principle of equality. The nation cannot wait for another rape for it to take some steps.”
