What Is The Post Matric Merit Scholarship?

The scholarship is available for permanent residents of Mizoram, and students must have obtained 60% marks or a First Division in the previous qualifying examination.

This government programme is based on academic achievement, in contrast to merit-based scholarships based on income. It provides financial assistance for needy students to pursue their studies in reputed colleges, universities and professional institutes in India.

The maintenance allowances are in the form of a scholarship which assists the students in paying tuition fees, accommodation costs, books, stationery, etc. required for higher education. The State Government's strategy is to increase the participation of students in higher education, remove financial constraints and ensure that students achieve high-quality academic outcomes throughout their study.

Objectives Of The Post Matric Merit Scholarship

It is mainly intended to promote merit, ease the burden of students who come from Mizoram and encourage them to pursue education. Other objectives include: -

• To motivate academically excellent candidates who obtain very high marks in Board & University exams and want to pursue further studies.

• To minimise the cost of higher education by making some contribution to tuition fees, maintenance grant, books and stationery and towards academic expenses.

• To boost the enrolment of students for higher education by making sure that talented students are not leaving the campaign due to their financial problems.

• To encourage students through this education support program to keep doing well academically throughout their academic career and to promote excellence in the educational process all over Mizoram.

• To facilitate professional and technical education and extend financial aid to students enrolled in recognised undergraduate, postgraduate and professional courses.

• To increase the capacities of the state in the field of human resource development by investment in quality education and educated, skilled persons.

What Are The Eligibility Criteria For The Post Matric Merit Scholarship?

For participating in the student merit award scheme, the students are required to meet all the conditions prescribed.

• The applicant must be a genuine permanent resident of the state of Mizoram or the child/ward of a permanent resident of the state.

• The applicant should be studying in a recognised college, university, or any educational institute, anywhere in India, as a regular student of the college.

• The applicant needs to have obtained at least 60 marks for obtaining first division/60 marks or percentage marks in the last board or university examination.

• Students completing post-qualification Medical courses are eligible only if unable to practise during such courses.

• The applicant is advised to continue studying regularly and achieving satisfactory academic progress during the scholarship.

• The student is required to abide by all rules laid down by the Mizoram Scholarship Board for availing and sustaining the scholarship benefits.
