The scheme focuses on providing financial assistance to Scheduled Caste (SC) girl students studying in primary classes so that they can continue their education without interruption. The Retention Scholarship for SC Girl Students provides annual scholarship support and thereby supports young girls from disadvantaged communities to build a stronger educational base.

Grant of Retention Scholarship to Scheduled Caste Girl Students is an educational assistance scheme to facilitate the continuity of primary school education for girl students from the scheduled caste community. The scheme acknowledges that many lower-income families can struggle financially to provide for the education costs of their children.

The student who receives the scholarship can renew their benefits, as long as they are able to satisfy the results of every stage of primary school, up to primary education.
To continue receiving support, students need to be promoted to the next level on an annual basis.
If any misconduct is reported regarding the student, they may be removed from the scholarship program.
Scholarships given on false statements or misrepresentation of information will be withdrawn, and the funds returned to the authorities.
To apply online for the SC girl scholarship in Puducherry, students are required to register and provide all the necessary details within the deadlines. Follow the steps below:-
Step 1: If students are applying for the first time, then they should visit the National Scholarship Portal and click on the option of Student OTR. All the applicants must carefully write all details just as stated in the official documents.
Step 2: Upon successful registration, this system creates a unique Registration ID for the Student. This ID will be needed for any activity using this application in the future, up to the day of login.
Step 3: Students log into the website and click Sign in in the Fresh Application section of the site with their Student Registration ID and password.
Step 4: Students must submit an online application once logged in, including all their personal details, academic details, bank account details, and other required particulars.
Step 5: Scanned copies of all the necessary documents in a properly formatted format are to be uploaded by the applicants. All documents uploaded will be clear and legible.
Step 6: Students should read thoroughly and finalise them before submission. If they are satisfied with all the information, they can apply online.
Step 7: The system generates a confirmation number for the application after successful forwarding. Anyone intending to apply should be aware of this and check their progress from time to time.

Required supporting documents need to be uploaded while applying for the educational assistance scheme. The application may be rejected if it does not contain all or any of the required documents.
Proof of identification, like an Aadhaar Card, is to be submitted for verification.
Recent passport-size photographs must be uploaded following the prescribed format.
School enrolment should be confirmed with educational documents and/or academic records.
A declaration in the prescribed form issued by the competent authority, as a certificate under the Scheduled Castes and Tribes, must be presented.
