The Electoral Commission is carrying out a program known as "Special Intensive Revision" to create an updated list of eligible voters (electoral roll). Because it often involves either adding new names or removing duplicates, many people wonder which documentation needs to be submitted during the SIR, as well as which specific SIR documents list pdf should be submitted, and at what point in time they should be submitted.
This guide explains the complete documentation process during SIR, including commonly accepted proofs, submission timelines and practical steps to ensure your name remains correctly listed. It also includes important SIR-related questions, what are the 11 documents required for SIR, to help voters understand the official requirements.
SIR is a specified, time-related process through which election officials will gather data regarding changes in voters' names, to identify and verify, through public advertising, the number of new voters (voters that are 18 or older), to identify changes within the registered address of voters, to verify any errors made in entering data or to delete duplicate or unregistered voters. This process is intended to be conducted publicly and to invite claims and objections to the registered names. Additionally, Booth Level Officers (BLOs), who typically would be responsible for contacting each voter to verify the name and updated information via SIR required documents list and will conduct field surveys and compile the information to finalise the revised voter list.
The following categories will simplify the use of the List of 12 documents for SIR documents asked for and their purpose. Read the list below to understand it better:-
Voter Identification Card (if you currently have one)
Aadhaar card (address page)
Ration card (must contain your name)
Utility bill (recent) (where accepted by state Election Registration offices)
Bank passbook/cancelled cheque (showing your address)
Driving licence (current address)
Rental agreement (some states may accept as it comes under sir required documents list)
NREGA Job Card or official Caste/Income Certificate(s) (if the Election Registration office allows alternative identification)
School Diploma/Certificate confirming residency (commonly accepted for young applicants)
Employer-issued proof of identification (temporary) (in limited situations)
Note: Each state's/Union Territory's Election Registration Office may have different requirements and/or accept different types of documents (as mentioned earlier somewhere 11 and somewhere List of 12 documents for SIR). When a document is capable of fulfilling either the identity or the address and/or date of birth verification requirement, it may be used to meet both criteria. Please check your state's Election Registration Office notice for any additional requirements.

Below are the points in time you may be required to submit your SIR documents list 2025, and what officials will be looking for from you at that time.)
The Application Process:
When completing Form 6 (New Voter) or Form 8 (Correction), submit the requested documentation with your application. If you are applying online p please upload your documentation to the application portal, and if you are applying by postal service, please take the actual documents along with a photocopy to submit to your local office.
After the Draft Electoral Roll Has Been Published:
Draft electoral rolls give every citizen the right to file objections to others' inclusion or exclusion from the electoral roll. If there is a challenge against your application, then you will need to provide documentary evidence of your identification (ID), address, and date of birth (Age). Likewise, suppose you have submitted an application and have received correspondence from the ERO stating that they have an issue with your application. In that case, you will be given notice that the ERO requires proof of the documentation you submitted with your application.
During Door-to-Door Verification:
The Booth Level Officers will be conducting door-to-door verification of the details on your electoral roll; therefore, you will need to have the original documents of the documentation you submitted available for the BLOs to match to the photocopies you submitted.
SIR's objective is for the electoral rolls to be kept accurate and inclusive at all times. The applicant's submission of clear and uniform 11 documents for SIR Election during the application process and cooperation with the BLO/ERO will ease the applicant's overall experience. If a notice is sent to you after the draft roll has been posted, it is critical to respond as soon as possible with original documented items or certified copies. Thoughtful preparation with the correct forms, appropriate documentation, and prompt response times will significantly increase the likelihood that you will retain your right to vote.
