YSR Rythu Bharosa: Transforming Agricultural Support For Farmers In Andhra Pradesh

Farmers form the backbone of Andhra Pradesh by providing its citizens with everything they need to survive. It is therefore a mandate for governments to take care of their financial needs. Keeping this in mind, the Andhra Pradesh government has launched the YSR Rythu Bharosa, one of the nine Navratna welfare schemes of the Andhra Pradesh government. This govt scheme provides financial assistance to farmers, including tenants, across the state.

The deteriorating financial situation of landless tenant farmers, scheduled tribes and the backward classes in rural India is a growing problem. This is why the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Jagan Mohan Reddy, launched the YSR Rythu Bharosa program on 15 October 2019. This government program will provide farming families with a monthly income of 13,500 rupees over five years. Around 7,500 of this sum will be provided by the state government, with the remaining 6,000 rupees coming from the Indian central government.
The money will reach the beneficiaries in three instalments: first Rs 5,500, second Rs 4,000 and finally Rs 4,000.

The government scheme has various features that help the farmers. Let’s take a look at the features of the Rythu Bandhu 2024.

Farming families who jointly own cultivable land will receive an allowance of 13,500 rupees per family per year, including 6,000 rupees from the PM-KISAN in three instalments, regardless of the size of their landholdings.
The benefit of 13,500 rupees will be paid in three instalments to eligible farmers as indicated below:
1st Instalment of Rs.7,500 in May (including Rs.2,000 from PM-KISAN)
2nd Instalment of Rs.4,000 in October (including Rs.2,000 from PM-KISAN)
3rd Instalment of Rs.2,000 in January (excluding PM-KISAN programme)
Landless tenants and ROFR cultivators belonging to BC, SC, ST and Minority categories will receive financial assistance of Rs. 13,500 per annum from the Andhra Pradesh Government Budget.
In case of the death of a farmer, the spouse of the deceased will receive the financial benefit. However, from the next year of death, financial assistance is given to the legal heirs according to the mutations in the land. The benefit amount under this govt scheme is transferred directly to the beneficiary’s bank account by direct benefit transfer (DBT).

The eligibility conditions for the farmer’s scheme are as follows:
Farmers participating in the PM Kisan scheme are also eligible.
Farmers cultivating on ROFR land and D-Patta land.
Farmers working on endowment land, Inam land or temple land.
Landless farmers.
Tenant farmers and farmers cultivating the land of owners belonging to excluded groups.
Landless tenant farmers and ROFR farmers belonging to BC, ST, SC and minorities.
The above-mentioned are the beneficiaries who can apply for the government scheme. The Rythu Bandhu 2024 focuses on small and marginal farmers only. Let’s take a look at who is excluded from applying for the govt scheme.
Tenant farmers (farmers working on rented land).
Wealthy or commercial farmers.
Those who do not own agricultural land.
Institutional lands (lands owned by government institutions or organisations).
Non-agricultural landowners (land used for non-farming purposes).
Corporate entities that own land.
There are various documents required to be submitted to apply for the government scheme. The documents that are required to apply for this state government scheme for farmers are:
Aadhaar Number
Proof of Residence
Domicile Certificate
Caste Certificate (if applicable)
Ration Card
Income Certificate / Proof of Income
Proof of Agricultural Land (if applicable
Bank Account Details
The application process for Rythu Bandhu 2024 is not yet official or online. The selection of an applicant depends mainly on the recently selected volunteers in the villages. Once you have submitted your application to them, they will evaluate it and report back to the finance officers of each area. After that, they submit this list to the government and later upload it to their portal.

Applicants after applying can check their application status. Let’s understand how to check the Rythu Bandhu status.
Go to the official Rythu Bandhu website.
Scroll down the home page and find the option ‘Cheque Distribution Venue Schedule.’
Click on it.
On the new page, select your District and Mandal from the drop-down menu.
The details of the cheque distribution venue will appear on your screen.
After making the payment to the government scheme, applicants can check their amount status. Let’s find out the Rythu Bandhu amount status.
Visit the official Rythu Bandhu website.
On the home page, click on the option "Know Your Rythu Bharosa Status."
A new page will appear where you need to enter your Aadhaar number.
Click on Submit, and your payment status will be displayed on the screen.
If there are any issues, applicants can visit their nearby Rythu Bharosa Kendra to get further help checking the payment status.
This method of verification is very simple. Follow the steps listed below
Step 1. Visit the official website of Rythu Bharosa. On the home page, go to “Application Status”.
Step 2. A new page will open where you need to enter the Aadhaar ID number. Then click on “Submit”.
Step 3- On another page, you can view the status of your input subsidy.
The Rythu Bima Scheme, also known as the Farmers Group Life Insurance Scheme, aims to provide financial support to the families of farmers who pass away. This government scheme helps ease the financial burden on families who might struggle with daily expenses after losing a loved one.
If a farmer enrolled in the govt scheme dies, including natural causes, their family will receive an insurance payout of Rs. 5 lakhs within 10 days. This support is needed for many families, especially those from poorer farming communities.
The YSR Rythu Bandhu-PM Kisan scheme of the Government of Andhra Pradesh has proved to be an important tool to support farmers and improve agricultural productivity.
